My DIY Deoderant--Fab Lav!

Ok, this'll be a short post, but a lot of people have asked for my recipe & have questions.  So, i'll try to get 2 birds here.

First, i switched to homemade deodorant when i got my everyday oils kit.  I've always heard about how bad deodorant is for you b/c of all the chemicals in it going straight into your body (i mean, aluminum, people).  Also, let me make the point--that i am a SWEATER!!  An anxious sweater, a nervous sweater, a stress sweater, an excited sweater & adrenaline sweater (and i'm usually one of those attributes at any given time)! Trust me, I'm not the girl that never sweats...man i wish i was, though.

So i thought, i'll give homemade a go.
I had all the ingredients on hand, which made it even easier to want to try--you probably do too.

Here's the original recipe:
Equal parts:
 coconut oil
baking soda
corn starch
5-10 drops of lavender

Mix together & store in glass jar.  You have to use your fingers to apply your deodorant, but you get used to that pretty quick & i don't even think about it anymore.

Here are my results:
Days 1-3:  Aaahhhh.....imagine me frolicking in a grassy field, that's how i felt! Wonderful! No sweating--seriously! I smelled great & felt great b/c i knew i was using something good for my body!

Day 4:  My left armpit was red & burning.  Someone warned me about this, they said it was my body "detoxing" from 18+ years of store bought deodorant.  So i thought, ok, i'm going to push through this.  I continued to use it even though it was red & burny, but alas--still no sweating!

Day 6 or 7 (i can't remember): My armpits were not burning anymore! The left one was still red, but no bumps, no burning--so i continued the use my Fab Lav. Deodorant (i think a name was just born)!

3 Weeks later:  Still loving my Fab Lav Deodorant!(<--coined it), no redness, very little sweating, and my body would probably thank me if it could!  My left armpit (don't know why that one is so difficult) was red for 2 weeks, now it's slowly fading away--i don't understand this, but it doesn't hurt & i'm not worried about it--so assume it'll make a full recovery.

This brings me to my next point--see the recipe, where it says original?  People have told me that my left armpit might just be reacting to the baking soda.  So, my next batch of Fab Lav, will have 1/2 the amount of baking soda than the other 2 ingredients. I'm also going to buy some arrowroot powder, b/c why not go all out crunchy while we're at it, to substitute for the corn starch.

Close up of my Fab Lav in 4oz jar--half gone!

So this is going to be my next batch (i'll report back once i use):

Fab Lav Deodorant:
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup arrowroot powder
1/4 cup baking soda
5-10 drops of young living lavender oil

Ok, this post was supposed to be short & sweet, but turns out long & sweet. ;)

Let me know if you try it or have any questions!

Why Young Living over the "other oil" companies?

Why did i choose Young Living Essential Oils over the, ahem, "other oil" companies?

It was an easy choice for me.  First, YLEO's were the first oils i was introduced to.

Second, i like that Young Living owns their own farms & rents farm land from local farmers to grow their own plants to make their oils from.  They do this so they can guarantee their oils from "Seed to Seal".   Basically, quality control, they want to be sure they have the BEST oils on the market and this is the only way to do it, by having their hands in every step of the process.  No synthetics found in these bottles, people! ;)

Third, they were one of the pioneers of therapeutic, grade A, 100% pure essential oil companies.  They've been around since 1993, has any other company been around that long? No.

Read all about how Young Living got it's start 21 years ago here.

Also, Julie, on essentialsurvival.org gives an EXCELLENT list (that i 100% agree with) on why she loves Young Living over the competitor.  You can read it here.

I hope this helps you figure out which company you're leaning towards if you're considering getting into the oily lifestyle! Please drop us an email if you want more info or have some questions for us! :)
